Born in Bridgetown, WA. Lives and works in Melbourne.
Aaron Martin has been consistently exhibiting his paintings, drawings and sculptural works since 1998, he has held numerous solo and group exhibitions across Australia. Recent curated exhibitions include: Group Formalism, 2017, curated by Jeremy Gales, Bundoora Homestead Art Gallery; Double Bind, 2016, curated by Nick Waddell, Trocadero Art Space, Footscray; Never Ending , 2016, curated by Leela Schauble and Siri Hayes, Kings Artist Run Space, Melbourne; Otherside , 2015, curated by Michael Brennan and Paul Batt, Counihan Gallery, Brunswick, Transported, 2014, curated by Richard Ennis, Incinerator Art Gallery, Moonee Ponds. He has twice been a finalist in the John Leslie Art Prize and a finalist in the Paul Guest Art Prize (2014) and the Churchie Art Prize (2011). He was awarded art residencies at: St Vincents Hospital (2010), Ballilla House, Brighton (2011), Poh Chang University, Bangkok(2013) and Naresuan University, Phitsanulok, Thailand (2013).
As an educator, curator and gallerist Aaron has been and is actively involved in the arts, lecturing in painting and drawing at Melbourne School of Art (2001-06) and Swinburne University (2005-12). He worked as a writer, interviewer and creative advisor for ArtInfo.com.au. He has held a seat on the board of Trocadero Art Space (2008-2010) and Vice-President (2010-2015). In 2012 he founded Five Walls Projects, Footscray, where he is the current Director. He is currently undertaking a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts (by research) at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne.
