Car Jacking is a sculptural installation that responds to and interacts with the existing architecture at Five Walls Projects. Installed at adjacent ends of the gallery are two large scale works: a Brancusi-like column constructed from ten car jacks, which spans a void of 3.1mtr - to link floor and ceiling - and a replica roofing truss, fashioned from lightweight plywood, it too is balanced precariously on its axis. These works aim to occupy a slippery space between the functionalism of engineering and architecture while employing the formal language of abstract painting and sculpture.
